Are you a Maker? We're here to help!

As a maker you want to enjoy your time developing your next innovation, not wasting time on steps that add no extra value to your project.Are_You_A_Maker_v_c35e3d300542f5031d130ed5dea003328bcd89e4.png

During your PCB design there are obviously key stages to complete - schematic capture, laying out the components, tracking them together, generating manufacturing files and many more. Before these key stages can even be started you have to find components that:

  1. Meet the needs of your project
  2. Are affordable, and
  3. Are available.

Once you’ve found the components the "fun" (pain) begins - It's time to build the PCB library models! I'm 99.99% sure you will have felt the pain of transferring info out of component datasheets into your CAD tool so you can build the PCB schematic symbols and footprints.

Not only is this boring (tedious) and a terrible use of your time, it's also error prone - humans make mistakes! The last thing you want is to get your PCB made, only to find that a part doesn't fit on its landpattern or that the pin order is wrong and you have to get more boards made.

Luckily the days of building your own PCB libraries are over! Now there is a website available that not only makes it easy to find parts, there’s also datasheets, live prices & availability, and it includes high quality, accurate PCB library data in the form of symbols, footprints & 3D models. Over 11,000,000 parts are listed so you're sure to find what you need. One user commented "My latest project in DesignSpark was the only one in 20 years where I've used all the parts I wanted to because I didn't have to pick an alternative just to avoid building libraries!".

Best of all its completely free to engineers, forever! Models are available in all major EDA formats such as DesignSpark PCB, Mentor Graphics, Zuken, Altium, Eagle, KiCAD & more.Supported_ECAD_Formats_b59788da65f8ec296e4ec856496d2fb68d5b6dd2.png

So next time you need component information - symbols / footprints / 3D models.

Having had a keen interest in computer (and other) hardware from a young age, i've built a lot of stuff. Some of it useful and some of it, not. I'm now in charge of managing our vast database of components, creating loads of new footprints and symbols and making sure that everything is of the highest quality.
