Hello. Sorry if this question seems a bit non-tech. I have a 21 year old son who is in his third year at University doing a degree in Computer Games Programming. This means he has a good knowledge base in programming. However he mentioned that he would like to build and programme his own gadgets, in his digs, based around a Raspberry Pi. I would like to buy him the basics to do this for a Xmas present. I know to buy a Raspberry Pi, but my question is what else do I need to buy, as a type of ‘starter kit’, to get him going. Also any recommendations on a decent soldering iron for electronics would be gratefully received.

Hi James There is a Raspberry Pi 3 starter kit available that includes everything you need excluding the monitor this is RS stock number (896-8119), link above in the feature products. The Raspberry Pi has an HDMI output so he could use most modern monitors, TV's or also above is the 7inch touch screen RS stock number (122-8914) if your son would like to have something integrated with his Raspberry Pi.
