Why semi-shielded inductors provide a cost effective solution by bridging the gap between shielded and non- shielded inductors.
Inductors are a fundamental element in the voltage regulator topology, and virtually every circuit that regulates power in automobiles, industrial and consumer electronics and DC-DC converters requires an inductor. Bourns semi-shielded SRN model series provides the best of both worlds by combining the features of non-shielded and shielded inductors, making them ideal for use in DC/DC converters which provide power management to mobile electronic devices, computers, data storage devices, renewable energy devices.
Bourns SRN 6045 series
Bourns introduced the semi-shielded inductor series using magnetic epoxy resin as a magnetic shield in 2011. The semi-shielded inductor designed to bridge the performance gap of shielded and non-shielded inductors by offering users a cost effective alternative. The SRN series is well-suited for industrial applications such as LED lighting, control circuits and GPS. With their semi-shielded construction, high inductance these inductors can be used in DC/DC converters, note book computers data storage devices, digital cameras etc.
The magnetic coupling factor is situated in the middle between non-shielded and shielded. In addition, semi-shielded inductors are a lower cost to alternative to shielded inductors by approximately 15-20%.
Bourns have produced a white paper “Selecting the Optimal Inductor for Power Converter Applications” to help you in your selection process.
