Vishay Film Capacitors - THB Grade
High reliability and long lifetime have always been key features of film capacitors, due to their featuring dry technology and self-healing properties. With the fast developments in industrial power electronics over the years, the role of a Film Capacitor has been diversified, and are now intensively used in several stages, from EMI filtering to DC-Link.
Many of these power electronics applications aim for reliability and extended mission profiles. Their manufacturer's wish is for a solution that is close to maintenance-free, regardless of location and ambient heat/humidity conditions.
Under heat and high levels of relative humidity, moisture progression may occur through a Film Capacitor, leading to capacitance decrease and ESR rise, in turn, this can hamper performance and lifetime. It is particularly relevant for outdoor applications or critical applications.
Solar Inverters, for example, are an outdoor application that can be exposed to water condensation during idle periods at night, which will then evaporate during the rise in day temperatures, and the Power Electronics device will start operation.
UPS & Motor Drives Systems are often responsible for keeping critical tasks running continuously, despite ambient conditions that can often be of high relative humidity levels.

To ensure stability over the years under harsh operating environments, Vishay Film Capacitors released several ruggedly designed products that meet high THB (Temperature Humidity Biased) testing conditions, ensuring long life with stable electrical parameters despite ambient conditions.
F340 Series
These products include the F340 series EMI Suppression Capacitors, offering X1, X2 and Y2 EMI filtering that comply with the harshest THB grade, as defined by the normative standard IEC60384-14 ed.4 AMD1. These products are GRADE IIIB – THB: 85°C / 85% R.H. / 1000h at UNAC, per this standard, and are certified by external agencies not only for their safety requirements, but also for the THB testing performed.

MKP1847H Series
