The 3D printing hype has been around for a few years now and no one can deny the possibilities are endless for the modern technology. Printers have gradually become more affordable but still completely out of my (poor student) budget. When I came across the ONO Smartphone 3D Printer, I must admit I got very excited.
Who is ONO?
ONOs ambition is to make 3D printing accessible to anyone. They have created a product which can 3D print small CAD designed objects, teaching the user basic 3D printing principles. The device uses the light from your phone screen to set a resin, building your object.
*ONO had to change their name from OLO in 2016 due to patent rights*
The device weighs less than 800g and has printing volume of over 400cm3. It runs on AA batteries and easily fits into a handbag or backpack. But the main thing is... it's sold for $99.
The good news: You can use the free DesignSpark CAD software (DS Mechanical) to create your designs!
The bad news: ONO is not currently mass produced. However, it is part of a Kickstarter campaign- so watch this space. I will certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for news and reviews.
