How would you measure the noise inside a car engine bay?
Planning a project that involves high speed communication in an electrically noisy environment. I'd like to be able to measure the "background" noise of an engine bay with the car running as well as the noise picked up in a cable. This data would then be compared to the electrical background noise in an empty room or lab. (Unfortunately, I don't have an EMC chamber to hand.)
Thanks in advance!

Hi James as no one has replied yet, one technique for finding specialist documents is the search engine http://www.freefullpdf.com/ it may take time to find the magic keywords in the search but it may lead to something useful. For your requirements also search for techniques in say mining or locomotives where they probably have the same issues. I found this one related to mining which may be of interest.
