For our needs, we are developing a protocol based on the old IRC chat protocol. We called it IRC-IoT. It works great both on large servers as an info bus, in smart cameras, and even in the IoT chip. http://irc-iot.org/

I'm missing in article info about frequencies AND conditions of use of the frequency band. For example i think LoRaWAN can run on frequencies 433, 868, 915MHz. 433MHz is free and 868 is allowed in EU and licenced (SigFox) and 915 is for USA?

Please, delete 1/2 meter boxes with content "[Comment was deleted]" (delete it real from database) and repair text from last part about LoRaWan starting with "Again, similar in some respects to Sigfox and Neul, LoRaWAN targets...". Right word is probably "aspects". After it this comment is a waste of time for all readers, so delete it also. :)

The image attached shows the protocols supported and the devices and inputs which can be simulated. Ready to use framework solution. In a couple of hours the environment including first tests can be started.

We are a group in ireland working on community energy and power matching - so we find ourselves knee-deep in this new IoT space connecting up Prosumer (Owner) Smart Meters and building Single Board Computer based End Nodes and stuff - we could do with guidance through the jungle? Any offers?

Have to agree with AKHE these are transport methods where is the IOT protocols EG A good example is MQTT
MQTT is a machine-to-machine (M2M)/"Internet of Things" connectivity protocol. www.mqtt.org

Very nice article. Good balance between summary level and useful detail. I am a semi-retired RF engineer looking at perhaps getting active again in IoT automation and this is helpful orientation.

Is't protocols like VSCP (http://www.vscp.org) and others in that filed more to think of as IoT protocols. IMHO the ones listed here are just transports just as tcp/ip and others is for the Internet protocols that make up Internet.
