FOURTH PROJECT: a Cretan "leera" designed with DSM 5

My latest project is the design of a Cretan "Leera" (Λύρα), the main instrument of traditional Cretan music (Crete, Greece, is where I come from).
The shape and features of my Lyra are kind of "modern", as I could not resist the temptation of playing with special features of the DSM. A picture of an ordinary Leera was used for the basic structure, and as the 3d object was involving it was transformed into a modern version, which I found quite satisfying. The main 2d design was extruded, sculpted with extensive use of pull tool (several variations), splines, blend tool for the cords (very useful), mirroring of solids and some of the nice textures and rendering available... The instrument was fully designed using DSM (which is obviously not only for screws and mechanics)

The "Leera" will also be used as a laser 3d printed object, using the "multiphoton lithography" technique, by the Non-Linear Lithography (NLL) group of Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IESL), under the supervision of group leader Dr Maria Farsari.
