Shining Light on Solar Cells - Chapter 2.1: Semiconductor Physics (Doping)

Doping? No the legal kind - stay in school.

Doping is a process to allow semiconductors to have more free electrons, or more free holes by replacing the semiconductor atoms with other elements. Doping is what controls the degree of conductivity in a semiconductor. Doping can be classified into p-type or n-type doping. N-type doping introduces extra free electrons in the conduction band, while p-type doping introduces extra free holes in the valence band.
