DesignSpark Mechanical (DSM) is a free-of-charge 3D modelling software for Windows desktop machines. It is built for rapid prototyping and with ease-of-use in mind. You can freely sketch the outline of your target object and then simply push/pull objects to convert them to 3D for further editing. Therefore, DSM is a great way for concept artists, industrial designers, and engineers to quickly turn their ideas into tangible products.
Here's a screenshot from Artstation showing how some graphics designers and VFX artists make DSM part of their toolkit: clicking on image takes you to artstation.com
