I have I guess my preferred board mounting techniques, usually a "button head" screw such as these https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/socket-screws/1838597/ and sometimes with a flange, I like these mainly as they are compact and I like the hexagon socket.
I often use with a shake proof washer, again I prefer with the external serrations, but don't always use these. Finally, on project completion, I use thread lock compounds.
I don't think I have ever had a mounting screw come loose, but what do professionals use for the aerospace and transport industries with their more demanding environments?
Also, what is best on the PCB? I prefer to leave copper around the hole (often part of a copper pour) as an extra bite for a shake proof washer, but is this the case?
Would a bear PCB be better or even copper with solder resist?
Perhaps the resist would allow more grip for the washer?
I also never plate the mounting holes or would rely on that for a connection as the plating could easily be damaged by the screw thread.
Interested in comments of what others do and what is considered best practice.
