UPRacing Electric, from the University of Portsmouth, is currently in the manufacturing phase of the UPR-E-05 MK.2, aiming to deliver a meticulously designed vehicle that effortlessly passes scrutineering and technical inspection, allowing participation in all events at the 2024 FSUK Formula Student Class. In the meantime, the team aspires to present a fully justified vehicle and compete fiercely in the static events. With six years of competition experience, the team comprises 20 members with diverse backgrounds and expertise.

The team was overjoyed upon winning the RS Grassroots Fund. The ordered components were one of our first deliveries towards the vehicle and served as an immediate boost to everyone's motivation and spurred them to work even harder.

Initially, the team aimed to build and race the vehicle this year. However, due to supply chain challenges and the need for extensive testing, the team decided to make the switch to concept class. This shift ensures the production of a safe and thoroughly tested vehicle that the team can take pride in. Currently, the team is in the process of manufacturing the vehicle, prototyping electrical circuits for PCB printing, and conducting individual component tests. The team remains on track to unveil our first electric vehicle at the 2024 FSUK season.

The components ordered consisted of electrical parts necessary for our build, enabling us to commence prototyping without delay.

Circuit testing on bench

By utilizing the acquired Arduino boards, we successfully integrated them into various systems, such as the accelerator pedal position sensor and ready-to-drive mode. Additionally, one board was allocated for prototyping and testing future developments.

Furthermore, we received a battery pack for our TSAL design, a current transducer for our brake system's plausibility device, and an insulation tester to validate the integrity of our wiring and electrical equipment. Additionally, we obtained a DC Proving Unit to detect live voltage and verify the absence of voltage, along with two lithium iron phosphate rechargeable batteries to power the control systems. These components have proven invaluable in developing our first Formula Student Class vehicle, enabling us to test our electrical systems early on and address any unforeseen issues that may have arisen during digital design.

We want to thank RS Grassroots again for providing such an opportunity and choosing us as one of the winners, and we can’t wait to show off the final vehicle upon its completion!
