At the impressive and innovative rooftop bar in TownHouse Duomo hotel in Milan, you can get your drink mixed and served by ‘Toni’ the cocktail robot. Toni can choose from over 150 different spirits which hang upside down from the ceiling.
The robot was developed by the Italian company MAKR SHAKR, the robot gripper arms are from KUKA and the intelligent safety concept is from SICK.Toni uses the robot gripper arms to select the bottle, pour the spirit and mixers, decorate with a slice of lemon and serve to the guest. He can mix complex cocktails or simple gin and tonics! He receives the precise instructions via the tablet app that the customer uses to order, ensuring a consistently delicious drink each time.
If a guest should reach into the openly accessible robot working range the four SICK safety laser scanners positioned to the front and side of the robot will immediately safe stop the robot.
Toni is not designed to replace the classic barkeeper but he does show how high-end technology from Makr Shakr, KUKA and SICK can replicate a usual activity.
