Put the Socket or the IC in the Schematic?

AndrewSaxsma

Hi,

I've recently started using DesignSpark PCB for a little one time custom PC board project that I have.  One of the requests was to use IC chip sockets.  I'm wondering whether I ought to put the socket component into the DesignSpark schematic or the IC chip?  I started by putting the IC chip in the schematic, but now that I understand that the schematic doesn't really do anything from a circuit simulation standpoint, I'm thinking that maybe it is better to put the socket into the schematic instead of the chip, but label its pins according to the functions of the chip that it will receive.

If I get more of these types of projects, I'm guessing that eventually I'll want to import SPICE circuits which of coarse would need to have the actual chip in the schematic.  Would I just need to manually go through and replace these with sockets?  Do any of the component libraries have a way to automatically replace themselves with their corresponding sockets?  Thanks all!
