In the past I have only made single layer PCBs at home using DS.
To do this I created designs using two layers (Top Copper and Bottom Copper) and used the Bottom Copper layer to make a single sided PCB. The Top Copper layer of the design is only used to represent wire links and was not used when making the PCB.
Now I want to make a true double sided PCB including some surface mount components.
I cannot use plated through holes as I will be making the board at home.
This means the pads for through hole components now need to appear on the Bottom Copper layer only rather than [All], which is the default. Having unconnected/unsoldered non plated through pads on the Top Copper side is not ideal.
Unchecking 'Plated' for the 'Pad Style' under the 'Design Technology' settings does not help - the pad on the Top Copper layer is still there.
If you right click on a pad for an existing component once it's been placed on a PCB, you can create an exception for the Pad Style but you cannot change the layer(s).
I can find no way to change the pad layer once the PCB Symbol for a component has been defined. This would mean all the existing 'through hole' packages for every component in the library would have to be duplicated, i.e. one version with plated through holes and another with non plated through.
Is there a way to accomplish what I want?
