How a battery management system works

The BMS (battery management system) associated with EVs is more complex than you might think. There is certainly more to them than just telling you the charge and range of coverage left in the vehicle. A myriad of sensors all feeds into the BMS, such as those measuring coolant temperature, detection of moisture, relay temperature, busbar sensors for monitoring battery cell temperature, and a whole lot more besides.

In this Ask the Expert extra with Brian Engle from Amphenol, we ask 3 simple questions.

Battery management systems, what do they do, how do they work and how do they promote safety?
