Have you considered the NFC Type-V tags/readers? They can go up to 1-2 meters, but with slower data rate (26kbps typically). If the reduced data data is not an issue, this can be a solution.... -

The modules I have played with have been doppler radar sensors so can only detect the speed of the object and not the distance. Most have a range of about 30m and I did see some at 100m, but nothing approaching... -
