How do I use Colour Component Rules?
This tutorial requires:
DesignSpark PCB V11.0.0A Component Colours tab is available in both the Design Technology dialog and Colours dialog to allow settings for over-riding the colours used to draw Component shapes and/or text. This is available for both the schematic and PCB design, in the Creator and Engineer subscription plans.
Why would you want to use this?
1. It is very useful for producing colour coded assembly drawings and documentation.
2. It is also useful to highlight components with a tag to indicate supply issues such as obsolescence, long lead times etc.
Below illustrates highlighting all diodes using “D*” on the PCB editor view.
Similarly, the technique can be applied to each schematic sheet.
With component obsolescence and difficult supply issues you may wish to manage your libraries and components to highlight components that will have supply issues.
If you do this by adding a ‘Value’ for this state you can highlight the component on your schematic to indicate you need to take action for.
Here we illustrate two components with a new “Value” added for “Availability” the first has an entry “Obsolete” and the second “Long lead time”.
Using “Component Colour” we can highlight these in our design providing good visibility of the issue to address.
