Have you heard of CMEMS?  It’s poised to create a positive disruption in the frequency-control industry by combining the advantages of MEMS-based solutions with many of the best characteristics of quartz solutions.

CMEMS® technology leverages the economies of scale afforded by standard, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing processes to create semiconductor products that enable smaller form factors, better performance, lower cost and greater scalability.

CMEMS® technology enables direct post-processing of high-quality MEMS layers on top of advanced CMOS technology as a single monolithic die. The Si50x series single, dual and quad variants from Silicon Labs offers great flexibility for designers in industry standard packages and are programmable from 32KHz up to 100MHz.

There is a sample volume programming kit available from RS, RS 795-6773, which means you can have blank samples on your workbench and generate any frequency within the range you desire instantly.

It also generates a fully orderable part number and data sheet at the same time as programming. Alternatively over 100 of the most common frequency devices are already stocked by RS and they are adding new parts all the time.

Beyond timing applications, CMEMS also represents a platform technology that

enables designers to build sensors and actuators alongside timing devices, allowing the MEMS industry to integrate more on-chip functionalities with improved performance.
