Chip-On-Board LED modules have been a huge success story in the lighting market in recent years.
With their notable advantages in lifetime, reliability, and reduced power requirements, COB LED modules are rapidly moving into mainstream lighting and driving completely new trends of “designing with light”.
Another advantage is that COB packages are suited to manual assembly.
The COB can be stuck with epoxy or mechanically engaged to the heatsink without requiring a lot of engineering resources, and there is a vast array of secondary Zhaga equivalent heatsinks, connectors and reflectors.
Always looking to improve the flexibility and design options for our customers, ILS have developed a series of PCBA's utilising Osram DURIS S Series components to create SCOB lighting sub-assemblies. This incorporates a number of S5, S8 and S10's mounted in series and/or parallel combinations enabling lighting manufacturers to introduce these light engines within their housings quickly and efficiently and producing very attractive lumens/watt output as well as high brightness. A series of heat sinks have been developed at the same time. Zhaga standard is adopted and recommended PCB/reflector holders are introduced.
This approach enables us to tune the SCOB output to whatever is required – Maximum lumens, maximum lumens/watt, or maximum lumens/pound.
The new and ever growing range of Osram DURIS S Series products which are using the latest generation processes and techniques have created an opportunity to introduce our range of SCOB products. We have introduced 19 different versions from LES 9 to LES 33 and with an output from 138 lumens up to 13000 lumens. The PCB's are 1mm thick metal core and have both screw holes for direct mounting on to a heat sink as well as connector pads that will integrate with existing LED engine holders that are available from BJB, Tyco and other suppliers. The LED engine holder will also allow a reflector to be mounted and we recommend a series of LEDiL reflectors.
A combination of series, parallel and series & parallel mixed have been used on different izes and options to get the best light output with not excessive voltage input. All products are constant current, and therefore need a constant current driver which can also be supplied by ILS or alternatives recommended
The SCOB approach allows ILS to offer our customers a full customisation service.
- Want a specific Lumen/Watt value – no problem!
- Want a special forward voltage option – no problem!
- Want a mix of colour temperatures – no problem!
- Want a red, green or blue COB – no problem!
