Frequently asked questions

Who can enter the challenge?

Anyone! Individuals or teams can participate as long as you are an Explorer member of DesignSpark. Explorer Membership is completely free.

Do I need an Arduino UNO Q to take part?

You don’t need to own one to submit your idea, but your concept should be designed as if it will run on the UNO Q. We’ll provide resources and guidance to help you understand what the board can do.

What does my submission need to include?

Every participant must submit a written article. Your submission should show your approach to one of the three challenge themes and how your idea uses the Arduino UNO Q.

What are the three challenge themes?

The themes you can choose from are AI at the Edge, Sustainability Through Intelligence, and Human–Machine Harmony. Each theme is designed to inspire meaningful, real‑world innovation.

How is the challenge judged?

A panel of RS and Arduino experts will score each submission based on 4 criteria: Innovation, Feasibility, Demonstration, and Impact.

What can I win?

The winner will win a prize of $5000. Winning submissions will also be showcased on DesignSpark and may be featured in media opportunities and internal/external events.

When does the challenge run?

The challenge launches at Arduino Days 2026 on the 27th and 28th of March. You can submit your idea until the 8th of May. Judging will take place until the 22nd of May, and the winner will be announced on the 26th of May.

Can students enter?

Yes! Students are encouraged to take part.

Where will the winners be featured?

Winning entries will be showcased across DesignSpark platforms, social media, and any PR or media coverage available through RS or Arduino.
