Who Are Team HARE

An introduction to Team HARE, the University of Huddersfield's formula student team. We are headed up by a group of 9 master's year students who design and build a new car each year with the help of our excellent undergraduates.

We are a longstanding UK team who have competed for the last 20 years since the second ever UK event in 1999. Over our 20 years, we have been a cost-effective team, placing as the number 1 UK team in 2013 and 3rd UK team at the 2019 event whilst earning the most improved award. 

Our Car

Our current car makes use of a welded steel tubular spaceframe in conjunction with a Triumph 675 engine which we hope will propel us to a top 10 finish at the Silverstone event. We race on 10" wheels, using front pushrod and rear pull-rod suspension (much like the current crop of F1 cars).

The key innovations that we plan to implement this year are:

• Composite steering column - this will allow us to reduce the weight of our overall assembly while allowing for better customisation of our tube lengths to ensure that the universal joints remain at their optimum working angles. For this, we plan on using UJs and column bearings sourced from RS.
• A revised wet-sump - this makes use of baffles that are determined by CFD simulation of slosh of the oil to allow us to minimise the weight without compromising the lubrication of the engine.
• Adjustable position aerodynamic devices to allow us to optimise drag to the required amount found through lap simulation.

The main areas we plan to make use of our sponsorship will be to manufacture our wiring loom in house, making use of connectors, wire and insulation from RS's catalogue. We will also be purchasing DC tooling to assist us in our build process.
