SPM2 & SPM3 Intelligent Power Modules

ON Semiconductor is driving energy efficiency innovations, providing a comprehensive portfolio of power modules enabling engineers to develop compact, robust, and highly efficient solutions for every motor control application.  These modules simplify design by integrating an inverter power stage using gate drivers, a temperature sense unit, bootstrap diodes, six IGBTs, and protection functions into a single package.

SPM 2 Series

SPM® 2 series modules provide fully-featured, high-performance inverter output stage solutions for AC induction, BLDC, and PMSM motors. SPM® 2 modules target high-power applications, providing 600V solutions with current ratings from 30A to 75A (FNA2xx60), and 1200V solutions from 10A to 50A (FNA2xx12). The devices integrate optimized gate drive of the built-in IGBTs to minimize EMI and losses, while also providing multiple on-module protection features including under-voltage lockouts, over-current shutdown, thermal monitoring of the drive IC, and fault reporting. The built-in high-speed HVIC requires only a single supply voltage and translates the incoming logic-level gate inputs to high-voltage, high-current drive signals to properly drive the module’s internal IGBTs. Reliability is reinforced using the latest NPT and field-stop trench IGBTs with DBC package technologies.

SPM 3 Series

Motion SPM® 3 series modules provide a compact and high performance inverter solution for AC, BLDC controller, and PMSM motor drives. SPM® 3 modules offer 600V solutions with current ratings from 15A to 50A (FSBBxx- CH120D), and 1200V solutions from 10A to 20A (FSBBxx- Ch60D and FNB3xx60T). System reliability is enhanced by combining extensive on-module protections and gate drives matched with low-loss IGBTs. Protection features include under-voltage lock-outs, overcurrent faults, and thermal sensing. The high-speed built-in HVIC provides optocoupler-less, single-supply IGBT gate driving capability that further reduces the overall size of the inverter system. Each phase leg current of the inverter can be monitored via the three separate negative dc terminals.
