Space-saving Connectors: Small is the New Big

The rising customer demand for smaller, more compact electronic devices with higher performance characteristics has driven the trend for connector miniaturization.

In today's’ growing market a designer's goal is to design applications with more and more features, to be sold at a competitive price with the highest profit obtainable.  The challenge is finding connectors with high functionality yet with smaller shell sizes or footprints to maximize panel or board space. Hence small is the new big.

At Hirose we specialize in connector miniaturization, we use our expertise in the challenging development of small electronic connectors and manufacture a wide range for industrial, automotive, smart meters, medical, consumer electronics and the smartphone markets.

Our connectors’ compact dimensions do not hinder the performance and highly reliable mechanical connection is assured. Our connectors are designed for devices that are susceptible to high vibration and even drop impacts. Hirose has many space-saving connectors that support next-generation high transmission speeds while reducing the occupied mounting area in comparison with comparable connectors on the market.

Now contemplating this, if you need a small and compact connector for your next project then consider our DF11 Series.

The DF11 wire-to-board connector features a 2mm pitch, with a double row design and is available in 4 to 40 positions, offering flexibility for a wide range of applications requiring multiple signals in a small space.

The innovative design of the double row housing is less than 5mm width, allowing more contacts to be provided in the same space as conventional single-row housing.

Furthermore, this connector is user-friendly and incorporates special ribs in the housing to prevent incorrect insertion and twisting when mating the connectors.

Metal fittings are provided on the headers to increase the retention of the connector to the board and prevent solder peeling.

DF11 fully complies with the UL/CSA standards. A board-to-board  & in-line version is also available.
