Space Apps Exeter 2018
On 20th and 21st October we proudly sponsored Space Apps Exeter 2018, a 48-hour hackathon organised by NASA where participants worked alone or with a team to solve challenges that could help change the world.
We headed to the Met Office HQ, where Tech Exeter had been busy setting up for a thrilling weekend of fun and innovation.
2018 marked the seventh annual NASA Space Apps event to be held in Exeter, with participants forming part of a much larger group forming the international hackathon in over 200 cities around the world.
We took a trip down "the street" in the impressive Met Office building to meet the teams and provide a behind the scenes look at what they were getting up to during our live social media coverage.
Teams set about projects ranging from a monitor to visualise the damage caused by meteorites during the past 2000 years to a lander to prepare for interplanetary travel.
Since 2012 The Space Apps event has grown from just 25 locations to 187 last year, attracting over 25,000 participants across six continents.
2018 was another record-breaking year, and we were extremely impressed with the talent, community spirit, and dedication displayed by those who attended in Exeter.
