Smart Water Dispenser System Design

It was great for me to work as an Intern at Designspark innovation centre, Bengaluru RS Components and Controls PVT LTD. During the internship, we interfaced multiple sensors and actuators with a microcontroller for embedded system design.

Power of Designspark PCB

A printed circuit board (PCB) mechanically supports and electrically connects electronic components or electrical components using conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from one or more sheet layers of copper laminated onto and/or between sheet layers of a non-conductive substrate.

We used Designspark PCB for the layout design of few sensor circuits. Designspark PCB is a great user-friendly tool which has most of the features available in other alternative software and open source software. Later we forwarded Gerber files to the manufacturing unit for fabrication.


Water dispenser

A water dispenser is, as its name implies, a devise that dispenses water.

It is used to provide easy access to drinking water. Water dispensers have become a necessary part of society.

  • Some water dispensers provide clean, filtered water from a replaceable bottle.
  • Other water dispensers provide water straight from a municipal water line.
  • Some dispensers perform functions like filtering water, heating water, or cooling water

Nowadays our water vending machines are only coin-operated, but our aim is to design a water vending machine which is operated on a smart card. In India, there is a problem with safe drinking water, therefore, we are going to provide mineral water. Water has become on of the most commercial products of the century. This may sound bizarre, but true.

The stress on the multiple water resources is a result of a multitude of factors. On the one hand, the rapidly rising population and changing lifestyles have increased the need for fresh water. If opportunity costs were considered, it would be clear that in most rural areas, households are paying far more for water supply than the often-normal rates charged in urban areas. Also, if this cost of fetching water which is almost equivalent.


  • Easy payment implementation using a smart card system.
  • Storage tank water level management using an ultrasonic sensor.
  • Water waste avoidance using by using an IR sensor for water bottle presence detection.
  • LCD for reading visibility.
