"Learn how students are changing the world one project at a time" is a 9-part series from a group of Hong Kong students who are using innovative engineering to improve their community and ultimately the world. Take a look at what these students have created.
Smart Plant Watering System
A lot of people have plants at home. Sometimes, when travelling, people forget to water or take care of them. This project aims to design a watering system that waters the plants automatically. The block diagram is shown in Figure 9-1. Sensors monitor the soil moisture, the room temperature and the water level under the soil. The system then reports the status of the plant and water levels in order to meet the right conditions (e.g., the soil moisture level is lower than 50%). At any time, the user knows the status of the plant and remotely waters the plant through the mobile phone.

To date, the progress is satisfatory. The mobile app has been developed and communicates well with the completed hardware device (see Figure 9-2 to 9-7). The hardware part is completed. Now the team are working on the integration and testing.
