RS Brings Real Value to Education

RS Components has recently signed with Digilent Inc. (A National Instruments Company). This enables RS Components to distribute technology to education in order to provide students with practical knowledge about electronic engineering - that’s why Digilent moto is ‘Beyond Theory’.

Digilent is headquartered in Seattle, USA and has a global presence with offices in Pullman, Romania and China.

To effectively enable educators teach students, Digilent has created an array of programming resources to accompany their technology. Educators are empowered to guide and encourage students to broaden their knowledge with a mix of theory, simulation and hands-on experience.

Digilent provides a comprehensive spread of free educational material to accompany their products. Take for example the programming resources for ‘Real Analog Circuit’. A collection of free educational materials consisting of 12 chapters focussing primarily on University classes. The materials range from ‘Circuits Analysis Fundamentals’ and ‘Circuit Reduction’ to ‘Frequency Response and Filtering’ and ‘Steady-state Sinusoidal Power’.

Education is the basis of the Digilent’s offering with products like Basys, Nexys, ZYBO and ZED. However, Digilent also has products that focus on:

  • Research with the NetFPGA, Sume and Genesys2 boards;
  • Maker movement with the Arty and the PIC 32 MCU boards;
  • Programmers with the JTAG/chipKIT-PGM and PMODs.

Digilent partners with strategic suppliers in order to deliver the best products to education. They have partnered up with the likes of Xilinx, Analog Devices, Imagination Technologies, Cypress and Microchip to bring the best culmination of technology to education.

Within the academic realm, Digilent has customers across the board. These academic customers include:

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich
  • University of Oxford
  • Technical University of Munich
  • University of Tokyo
  • National Cheng Kung University
  • Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

The secret to Digilent success lies in their community. Digilent has a community that looks at empowering the visitor. The visitor has a variety of resources and information at their fingertips. These include the ACCT Based Store, the free learning portal, blogs, online forums, social media and newsletters. In addition to Digilent’s regular and global workshops.

RS Components’ University programme and Digilent’s Education program have partnered up to bring additional value to both their communities. Stay tuned for more news on this partnership.

Focused on providing the next generation of engineers with the tools, skills and resources to express innovative ideas and love what they do.
