Project Hydrive – The Future of Hydrogen-Powered Innovation
Who We Are
The Hydrive Project is the flagship initiative of the MechaniCAD Student Scientific Association, operating at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. Our daily work revolves around designing and building a vehicle powered by an eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell, specifically created for participation in the prestigious Shell Eco-marathon competition. Our team unites young, ambitious engineers who, through their involvement in our association, gain valuable experience in various engineering fields and share their knowledge with younger colleagues and other students at our university. Our primary goal is not only to refine our vehicle but also to educate society about sustainable energy sources and promote modern, environmentally friendly transportation technologies.
Shell Eco-marathon
Shell Eco-marathon is one of the most demanding and prestigious competitions for young engineers worldwide. Participants are challenged to design, build, and test a vehicle with maximum energy efficiency under real track conditions. Our journey in this competition began in 2023. As debutants, we successfully passed the technical inspection; however, we were ultimately unable to complete a qualifying run. The 2024 edition was significantly more successful—we again passed the technical inspection and managed to complete a qualifying run, securing 6th place in the category of hydrogen prototype vehicles in Europe and Africa. The 2025 competition will take place in Poland, which serves as an additional motivation for us to keep improving. We are confident that our dedication and technological advancements will enable us to achieve an even better result.
Plans for This Year
Our main objective this year is to further optimize our vehicle. The history of the Hydrive 1 car dates back to 2018, when the concept was first developed, along with the scientific association from which we originate. Over the years, we have gradually refined our vehicle, leading up to our first competition appearance in 2023. Currently, our focus is on improving the existing design, implementing innovative solutions, and testing new components. The experience we have gained from competitions, conferences, and trade fairs continues to inspire us to enhance our project. By collaborating with the RS Team, we aim to achieve our dream results and secure an even higher position in the next Shell Eco-marathon.
Sustainable Transportation
Our activities go beyond just building our vehicle. Equally important to us is raising awareness about renewable energy sources and sustainable transportation. We actively participate in conferences, trade fairs, and open house events, where we share our knowledge and experience with the public. Our goal is to inspire others to explore ecological solutions and develop technologies that can make a real impact on the future of transportation.
Summary
The Hydrive Project embodies passion, innovation, and learning. As the MechaniCAD Student Scientific Association at AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, we focus on creating an efficient, eco-friendly hydrogen-powered vehicle while also educating society about renewable energy sources. Our participation in the Shell Eco-marathon and collaboration with experts allow us to gain invaluable experience and further develop our project. We look toward the future with optimism, striving for even better results and further promoting sustainable transportation.
