PostNord illustrates global trend towards energy optimization
PostNord, the Scandinavian communications and logistics company, aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 40% compared to 2009 by the year 2020. That ambitious undertaking has given rise to a raft of measures, one of which is the conversion of conventional lighting to energy-efficient LED luminaires.
The latest example of successful modernization of its lighting system is at the Logistics Center in the Danish city of Broendby. More than 1,200 luminaires have been replaced in the warehouses, freight centre, offices and outdoor areas. Together with the electrical installation company Kvalitek, PostNord decided in favour of LED luminaires from LEDVANCE.
Key factors for choosing LEDVANCE luminaires were their average operating life of 15 years (50,000 h, L70/B50), the five-year warranty, and the very short delivery time. A further criterion that swayed the decision was simple installation: That reduced installation costs as well as the risk of damage to the sensitive production systems during installation.
The new LED lighting solution boasts diverse advantages: Luminous efficacy has increased by 50% compared to conventional lighting. That is rated very positively by the company’s shift workers, who appreciate the bright and natural light enabled by the switchover. Moreover, energy consumption for lighting is 50% lower and heat emission is so low that cooling systems no longer need to be used. Energy consumption has been cut overall by 25%. That means the company has taken a big stride forward in achieving its climate protection target.
