ISO-TECH ISA 830 TG: using the tracking generatorFollow article
The tracking generator provides a signal the frequency of which is swept synchronised with the spectrum analyser and with a linear output level. This is an extremely useful feature to have and allows you do things such as examine the frequency response of RF components.
The analyzer also includes a “normalize” feature which allows you to minimise the effects of cables, connectors and adapters used with the device under test.
The video above goes through the process of enabling the tracking generator and running the normalisation procedure to apply correction for the cables used, before examining the response of a 20db attenuator, resistive power divider, and low and high pass filters. In each case the attenuation of the devices across a frequency range of 0-3GHz can be seen.
Although passive components were used here, the tracking generator feature could equally have been used to examine the frequency response of active devices such as amplifiers.
