Installation engineers live in the real world. While we would all love to connect our new equipment in a spacious, well-lit workshop, the reality often falls short of this ideal situation. Equipment can be installed in some strange places, and it is the installation engineer who needs to make it all work.

This vital group of engineers develop their skills in these difficult circumstances. Well used to poor lighting, cramped spaces and tight schedules, the installation engineer is nevertheless able to take advantage of some nice technology to finish the job.

One of the key technologies at the engineer's fingertips is the field-installable connector. We've taken a look recently at how field installable connectors can help the occasional user, but they are really intended for the hard working installer.

Field installable connectors are designed to be terminated without a huge toolbox, allowing engineers to use just a handful of common tools to get the job done.

Phoenix Contact have just released a new family of connectors that offer tool-free installation. Based on the fantastically popular RJ45 connector, this new family is intended to make networking easier for the installer.

There’s no better way to prove how user-friendly these connectors might be than to see them in action. Take a look at this video...

The new Phoenix Contact connectors are available now from RS Components.

Connector Geek is Dave in real life. After three decades in the industry, Dave still likes talking about connectors almost as much as being a Dad to his two kids. He still loves Lego too. And guitars.
