Improve your skills, Increase your life chances!

Competition for job positions is tight. Educators, professionals and graduates alike are required to be actively engaged in developing different skills. Sometimes they are responsible for sharing these skills with others in time-limited events such as workshops.

The word ‘workshop’ suggests that “it’s meetings at which a group of people engage in intensive discussion and activity on a particular subject or project” (Oxford Dictionary 2015). In a short period of time, attendees are equipped quickly with a set of tools to enhance their skillset.

The development of your skills through workshops is an asset in job applications. It’s a chance to show interviewers: inquisitiveness, curiosity, keen interest to learn, adaptability and so on. Furthermore, workshops assist in the development of peer networks, a vital component in professional lives. (Check Dalziel & Grant 2010).
Connecting with people is good. Who knows, that chance encounter might turn out to be a future work colleague or even your boss!

Technology never stands still. Engineers young and old need to keep themselves up-to-date. A key technology area is ECAD design tools, and that’s where we can help you.

Here at RS Components, the DesignSpark team have been working hard to deliver ECAD tools that meet customer needs, and which enhance the usefulness of using RS as a preferred supplier for design and prototype development. The response has been good: many of our customers have familiarised themselves with these free design tools. DesignSpark PCB and DesignSpark Mechanical now have around half a million users!

Some Engineers are self-taught on these tools, however most enjoy the group learning environment of a workshop. An example of how “engineers get hands on with DesignSpark tools” is well illustrated in a recent workshop at the FabLab in London.

Educators and graduates benefit from these tools, and workshops such as the one at the FabLab, enables engineers to be in the vanguard of technology. Engineers can prototype more quickly, make use of the most versatile components library; access millions of 3D models; and 3D print their creation.

"Improved my understanding of state of the art software" Professional

By using these tools, engineers can take their idea, develop a concept, develop a prototype, and ultimately take it to market. Imagine, arriving at an interview with a prototype of an idea that you created and developed. Picture the impression that would make on the interviewers!

"I believe the workshop benefits my future prospects as I have more skills" Student

Universities around the world are interacting with the RS University (RSU) programme. RSU delivers workshops in Universities and Educators at the workshops have felt the benefits. Many recommend them to others and encourage workshops to be held at their own Universities.

“In terms of both organisation and delivery this was one of the best training events I have attended in the past ten or so years!” University Course Leader
