How to Shrink Your Isolated Power Design with a No-Opto Iso Buck DC-DC Converter

Isolated power supplies can provide:

  • voltage level shifting
  • ground isolation
  • multiple outputs
  • safety

They use output voltage feedback for proper voltage regulation. In conventional isolated power supplies, this is achieved using a secondary side error amplifier, an optocoupler, and other discrete components. These increase design complexity, bill of materials and overall solution size. Additionally, the current transfer ratio capability of the optocouplers deteriorates with time, degrading performance. Maxim Integrated's No-Opto technology eliminates the need for an optocoupler and discrete feedback components. It regulates the output voltage by monitoring the primary side of the transformer, allowing a more compact, smart and efficient power supply solution.

In this video, you will learn how to use the MAX17681EVKIT to achieve compact, well-regulated and efficient power supply designs for space-constrained applications.
