How do I sequentially number multiple named pins in my schematic?

This tutorial requires:

DesignSpark PCB V12

This new DSPCB v12 feature available to all subscription levels provides the Component Editor with additional ways to define multiple named pins. Defining pins is now improved where pins are sequentially numbered providing convenience and removing possible errors. Multiple pins can also be displayed as a string instead of the actual pins. Both of these features will enhance the component as viewed in the Schematic Editor.

Name Range provides convenience for any sequential pin numbering and can be used where there are non-consecutive numbers such as 1, 8-13, 15,18. Previously these would have all had to be defined explicitly.

The method substitutes a comma in the pin range indicating all pins require external connections. If the pins are connected internally the plus sign can be applied by adding the suffix plus (+), e.g. 1, 8-13+, 15, 18

The image below shows a simple example for a USB connector.

Name Prefix (Display As) allows a string to be displayed in place of the pin range.

When these components are added to the schematic design they will appear as shown with a condensed and neater appearance.

In the video, both of these simple examples are presented, illustrating the extension to the pin assignments when creating components and the improved view when used in the schematic design.

The “No Connect” feature available in the Engineer subscription is also mentioned as this functions nicely with the above examples.
