DesignSpark PCB V12This new DSPCB v12 feature (available with Creator plan) allows a copy of any current file to be saved without changing the focus from the current file. A quick recap.
Save – Saves with the current filename.
Save As… - Saves with a new name and the current file being used is updated to that.
Save All – Behaves the same as “Save” but applies to all open files.
The new “Save Copy As” saves the file with a new name, but the current file is not changed.
The above is as most standard Windows applications function, but within DSPCB “Save Copy As” has an additional function for schematic and PCB design files in that it removes the association of the project from the file.
This is important if the file copy is subsequently worked on either ‘standalone’ or part of a project.
Errors messages such as the following when opening a copy of a file outside of the project folder will not occur.
Where “Save Copy As” appears in the menu options such as when editing a Design Technology file, it will behave the same as other Windows applications.
This video illustrates the new features.
