This tutorial requires:

DesignSpark Mechanical V6.0

In the Explorer plan, you can add text annotations to your designs using the ‘Dimension’ tool from the Investigate group of the Design tab. In higher subscription plans, there is also a dedicated ‘Note’ tool in the Detail tab.

However, there is no single click operation in DesignSpark Mechanical to engrave or emboss text on solids. Here are two ways you can do this:

1. Use Project to Sketch

Use the ‘project to sketch’ tool after entering your text in a dimension annotation. After your text outline is projected onto a solid or surface, you can hide the annotation plane from the structure tree. Watch this community tutorial for guidance (note that an older version of DSM is used in demo, so the user interface differs slightly but steps remain the same):

2. Use Project Tool

You can use the ‘Project’ tool from the intersect group of the design tab, if you are placing text on a solid in 3D mode without using a sketch grid. Watch the attached GIF demo (note that an older version of DSM is used in demo, so the user interface differs slightly but steps remain the same):
