How can I add blind and buried vias?
This tutorial requires:
DesignSpark PCB V11.0.0For advanced multilayer PCB designs using modern high pad density components, DSPCB Engineer provides the essential tool to apply blind and buried vias.
How do I add blind and buried vias?
These are simple to apply, but first, you need to define the layer spans that are required.
The application is totally flexible allowing you to define any layers as "spanned", however, you MUST check with your manufacturer as to what they can provide and importantly at what cost!
In the Design Technology, select the "Layer Spans" tab and use <Add> to create the required span between the layers and also select a colour for the via.
DSPCB Engineer will display an information message as a reminder for you to check that the span is as you require. If so click <OK> and the layer span will be added.
For this example, we have set the following layer spans and colours to assist visualising the via span in the PCB Editor.
This completes the required configuration.
How do I add these blind and buried vias to my design?
Route your tracks in your design as normal and when you change layers the normal layer options are presented including the added layer span options.
When a layer span change is selected, a blind or buried via will be applied using the colours for the via you previously defined.
Below shows a simple track routed to various layers and the result is shown in the 3D View.
The appropriate blind or buried vias are used for layer spans where they have been defined. If you select to route to any other layers, the default "All Layers" via will be applied as shown by left two vias routing Top copper to Layer 3 to ensure compliance with the manufacturing options you have selected.
