Getting Started with Gemalto (Cinterion) 3G Terminal Kits

Many purchasers of 3G and GSM Terminal Kits wish to make those first evaluative steps with the technology as pain-free as possible, or to confidently determine their new device is performing as expected and make any necessary ‘tweaks’.

Terminal Kits are available which include all necessary parts to get up-and-running as quickly as possible. EHS6T Terminals are also available standalone.

This ‘Getting Started Guide’ aims to support users making their initial and follow-on steps forward as fast as possible using the Terminal Kits.

The Cinterion EHS6T is the first 3G Terminal (or Modem) manufactured by Gemalto, and is based upon a new internal 3G wireless module which gives provides global coverage on 3G networks world-wide.

It has flexible mounting options a wide supply input range and additionally supports customers own Java applications.

The EHS6-Terminal also has low power consumption and can additionally support Java applications written and installed by customers. This is the new standard platform (Terminal) in the manufacturers' history of delivering industrial machine-to-machine wireless products.

Gemalto (Cinterion) Terminals are regularly cited by manufacturers of other industrial equipment, such as motor-drive controls, data-loggers and security panels, as the preferred GSM communications device. Often those manufactures specify a 2G / GPRS device, but as cellular networks change world-wide the need for a 3G variant with the same interfaces and closely matched command set occurs more often.

The guide also makes reference to new and improved features such as Informal Network Scanning, improved Cell monitoring presenting with Timing Advance (TA) information and Preferred Serving Cell commands.

Finally, as the EHS6-Terminal is based upon the Cinterion EHS6 module, the Terminal Kit may also be used as a software development and test environment prior to custom embedded hardware based on either the EHS5 (a dual-band 3G version) or EHS6 wireless modules.
