Fuelling Innovation: How the RS Student Fund Propelled Our Engineering Projects
We’re thrilled to share how the RS Student Fund has been instrumental in supporting our student engineering projects. From providing essential resources to funding innovative activities, this support has allowed us to grow, improve our projects, and push the boundaries of what we can achieve as a society. In this article, we'll take you through the journey of how this funding has contributed to our work, including some of the projects we've been working on and the direct impact the funding has had on our activities.
The RS Student Fund has supported a wide range of our projects, helping us support a diverse portfolio of engineering initiatives. Some notable projects we’ve enhanced through this funding include our Mars Rover project, rocket engine development, and participation in the National Rocketry Competition. The support has provided the necessary resources to help us progress in these areas and gain hands-on experience with high-performance engineering systems.
The RS Student Fund has been pivotal in providing the tools and supplies needed for each of our projects. We’ve been able to invest in one of the most important (and often overlooked) areas, critical workshop supplies like health and safety equipment, including respirators and gloves, ensuring a safe working environment and teaching our members best practices in safe operation. We purchased a pressure transducer for our rocket engine project to monitor and measure crucial data during testing, ensuring more accurate results and increasing our readiness for motor firing this summer. The National Rocketry Competition Team also purchased microstrollers to develop the rocket payload, allowing us to gather data and control systems during flight.
Like any ambitious project, we faced our fair share of challenges. We encountered technical setbacks in our Mars Rover prototype and delays in sourcing specific electronic components. However, the RS Student Fund's support and a collaborative approach allowed us to overcome these issues by providing us with the necessary tools and equipment.
The impact of the RS Student Fund on our projects cannot be overstated. We’ve been able to expand our capacity, taking on larger projects and developing more sophisticated prototypes. Every penny of the funding has been invested directly into project development, from safety equipment to advanced components. The funding has also enhanced the student experience by providing us with the tools and resources to gain hands-on knowledge that builds skills for future careers, making the next generation of engineers.
Thanks to the RS Student Fund, we’ve grown our engineering society, taken on more complex projects, and directly impacted the success of our students. The funding has been a vital part of our journey, supporting everything from workshop safety to the development of cutting-edge prototypes. We encourage other student societies to apply for funding and experience the benefits it can bring to their projects and teams. Together, we can continue to innovate, inspire, and push the boundaries of student engineering!
