Electric Superbike Twente: Preserving racing for future generations
We are Electric Superbike Twente, a multidisciplinary student team from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, building electric racing bikes. The team has existed since 2017 and has built a new superbike almost every year. Some notable achievements include winning MotoE in 2018 and achieving a top speed of over 300 km/h on the Kymiring in Finland. One year ago, however, the team decided to make the switch to MotoStudent Electric, a student motorcycle competition against more than 40 other teams. This switch required the team to design, build, and test a completely new bike with a fresh concept in just one year. Being able to take home the Rookie of the Year award at MotoStudent was, therefore, a big compliment.

This year, we are rebuilding from scratch. The main focuses are to reduce weight, improve reliability, and streamline internal systems. The team is redesigning the hardware of many of its internal electrical components, like the BMS and data gathering nodes, and almost the complete software package is being updated. The mechanical side is also being revamped, with lighter materials being used for the frame, making a structural carbon fibre tank and tail, and an innovative cooling solution for the motor. The new bike is called Nexus-TR, with its main features being a 25% reduction in weight, great simplification of internal systems and improvements in reliability.

We will now start with the production phase of the bike, aiming to be ready in July. This part is where the RS Build Fund comes in. By supplying us with high-quality components, we are able to engineer at the best of our abilities, aiming to compete with the top teams in MotoStudent.
