DesignSpark for Woodworking?

Is DesignSpark Mechanical suitable for designing woodworking projects like furniture? I've used earlier versions of Sketchup with accetable results. Are there any advantages and/or distadvantages of DesignSpark Mechinical versus Sketchup?

It's ideal for woodworking projects.

Just remember as in Sketchup make each piece into a 'Component'. Then each part will not automatically be joined to the part touching it.
All of your Sketchup files can be read and used in DSM. You can also save as Sketchup files. Make sure you save as the correct Version of Sketchup you use.

One of the many advantages between the two DSM creates 'solid' models with no internal geometry to worry about, whereas Sketchup creates 'faces' with a 'hollow' interior with unwanted geometry inside. Also the curves and circles are always smooth not faceted as in Sketchup.

I personally still have and use V8

I would recommend following all of the tutorial files.

@JACANT Thanks for the helpful reply. I also have Sketchup Ver. 8, but having installed it on a new Windows 10 computer it appears to work, but it takes at least a minute or more to open up so I wonder if there will be other problems if I start using it. Perhaps it's time for me to try something new.

@Don2 It is usual for the program to load in about a minute. It first checks to see if there is an internet connection. If there is it will check your user login details. So it depends on your internet speed. https://designspark.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002322918-DSM-4-0-Is-it-slow-on-Windows-10-even-with-a-high-spec-machine- Don't give up, especially since you have used Sketchup. The work sequence is very similar.

@JACANT I was referring to Sketchup running on Windows 10 taking a minute to load. Since Sketchup Ver, 8 predates Win 10 that may explain the slow load time. I haven't yet tried DesignSpark.
