Frequently asked questions

What is circuit simulation?

Circuit simulation is a critical process that helps model and test electrical circuits before they enter the production phase. Electronic simulator tools play an important part in the general electrical design process, helping to replicate the behaviour of circuits and systems to ensure optimal real life performance and functionality.

Most circuit simulators come with design and simulation features built-in, allowing engineers to create, adapt and analyse designs to produce the most effective electrical configurations. Simulation is a valuable process for all electronic designers, saving further time and money, and helping to avoid errors with simple and complex circuits alike.

The DesignSpark Electronic Circuit Simulator is an accessible and easy-to-use online design and simulation tool available to both private and commercial users. Use the free circuit simulator with our Explorer plan or upgrade to our paid Creator and Engineer plans for extended access.

What is circuit simulation used for?

Circuit simulation is used to streamline the electrical design process. With digital testing and analysis of electronic systems, flaws in schematics can be identified and resolved long before being sent to manufacturers for production. This helps to reduce waste, cost, and the time needed to take a product from concept to market.

With tools such as the DesignSpark Electronic Circuit Simulator, engineers have a full range of functionality, from schematic design and modelling, to perform accurate electrical simulation and analysis.

Some of the most common uses of circuit simulation software include:

What are the benefits of circuit simulation?

Online circuit simulation helps both private and commercial users to achieve several benefits, including:

Why choose DesignSpark Electronic Circuit Simulator?

Powered by Siemens PartQuest Explore, DesignSpark Electronic Circuit Simulator is a complete design, modelling, simulation and analysis tool for electronic and mechatronic circuits and systems. It has full coverage for analog, digital, mixed-signal, and multi-domain systems, including electro-mechanical and electro-thermal functionality.

Simulation lets you emulate circuit and system behaviour accurately and make mistakes before you hit production, while the intuitive interface helps you improve designs easily either alone or in collaboration with a wider team.

All you need is an internet connection to get started as our electronic simulator runs in most modern web browsers and on many devices. Choose the Explorer package for free access both personally and commercially. If you're looking for extended access to our online circuit simulator, you can upgrade to one of our paid plans: DesignSpark Creator or Engineer.

These are the five main reasons why you should consider DesignSpark Electronic Circuit Simulator:

  • No need to download: It's a cloud-based circuit simulator software, so all you need is a web browser and an internet connection. Everything is accessible online – schematic tools, simulation engines, waveform viewers and a place to store your work.
  • Free to use: Our DesignSpark Circuit Simulator service is free to use with our Explorer plan, whether you're working on a personal project or using it commercially. But you can always upgrade to our paid Creator and Engineer plans if you need additional features.
  • Pre-defined models available: You'll have access to a generous library of components and models ready to be used directly. Alternatively, you can import models using VHDL-AMS code or create a new model from scratch.
  • All-in-one design and simulator tool: You can model and simulate analog, digital and mixed-signal systems in one place. Pick symbols, drop them onto a diagram, wire them together and simulate the multi-discipline performance of the system in DesignSpark Electronic Circuit Simulator.
  • Easy to share designs and collaborate: Embed “live” schematics and share simulation results simply with our handy interactive and collaborative features. Work more dynamically with your team and design partners to achieve maximum project efficiency.

Start your design and simulation journey with the free online circuit simulator tool from DesignSpark.

How does a private group work?

Private groups are intended for companies with engineering teams collaborating on designs. Private Groups and its designs are hidden from users that are not part of that group. DesignSpark Engineer subscribers can request a Private Group by creating a support ticket.

Your application will be assessed by the DesignSpark team.

Are my designs private?

DesignSpark Circuit Simulator is a great platform for finding, modifying, cloning and sharing designs that can be utilised into your final PCB design. The nature of the platform means that for general users, all designs are public and searchable.

If you are a “DesignSpark Engineer” subscriber and working within an organisation with engineering teams collaborating on designs, you can apply for a Private Group. Designs in Private Groups are only visible to you and your group members. Applications are reviewed and approved by the DesignSpark team.

Can I pause my subscription?

We have made our subscriptions as flexible as possible, this includes offering the ability to pause your subscription at any time and select the length of time (1, 2 or 3 months) that you would like to pause for.

What if I want to upgrade in the future?

Upgrading is really simple, and can be done at any time via the My subscription tab in your account area.

Can I cancel my Free trial at anytime?

At any time within your free trial, you can cancel your subscription and revert to the Free Explorer membership tier
