Copying array of 2d objects

Hi all,

I am trying to draw a perforated sheet but I don't know how to make one without literally drawing every single square. See Below.

I tried drawing a row and copy and pasting them but when I try and combine the copied row beneath the drawn row only the drawn row can be cut out from the background.

Any ideas? I really don't want to draw hundreds of squares.
