The Department of Electrical Engineering of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and 17 secondary schools jointly organized the 4th EE Summer School in summer 2020. Due to the pandemic, the theme of the summer school was “A Revolution of Online STEM Education”. It aimed to cultivate high school students’ interest in engineering innovation and strengthen their confidence in working with others in a collaborative environment.

The summer school conducted three 6-hour parallel sessions every Saturday in August. Three modules with different themes were designed to facilitate participants to have an eye-opening learning journey through a series of lectures and hands-on experiments. They include microprocessor-controlled systems, AI and Machine Learning, and cloud computing. This event successfully got 123 students from 29 secondary schools participated. All students found the programme useful, interactive, interesting, and enjoyable.

A closing ceremony was held on August 29th. School principals, teachers, module lecturers, student facilitators, and student participants shared their learning experiences with each other. Finally, the Head of Department, Professor Stella Pang awarded certificates to the winners of the competitions designed in each module.
