The “end” of inefficient halogen household lamps with nondirectional light

Who and what will be affected by the ban at first?

• • The rule will primarily impact lamp makers and retailers at first.
  • The new ErP Regulation exclusively applies to initial “placement on market” throughout the entire EC market.
  • Stored inventories of inefficient halogen lamps with nondirectional light will continuously fall beginning on September 1, 2018, until the last lamp is gone

Features of the affected lamp

One of the lights that may not be placed on the market starting on September 1 will be halogen “incandescent lamps” that provide all-around light, use typical glass bulbs and operate without a transformer. Most of these lamps have the widely used E27 or E14 screw base and provide general, mood and doorway lighting. In the LEDVANCE portfolio, such products are found in the family     Osram Halogen Classic. Some nondirectional halogen lamps with a Type G4 or GY6.35 plug-in base – like the Halostar Standard 24V – will also be affected by the upcoming prohibition.

Non affected lamps

Items that will be excluded from the regulation include special-purpose products like oven lamps that cannot be replaced with an alternative, energy-saving technologies. Other products not covered by the regulation are certain halogen lamp types with an R7s or a G9 base like the OSRAM Haloline or the OSRAM Halopin made by LEDVANCE.
