Testing to the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations with Fluke

The 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2018) is published in July 2018, with all new electrical installations needing to comply with this edition from 1st January 2019.

Fluke 1660 Series of Multifunction Installation Testers, can test to this latest edition (also tests to HD 60364-6) and helps you work safer and protect the installation under test.

One of the latest updates to this 18th Edition is the need to perform an insulation test between all live conductors, however, all appliances need to be disconnected from the system before the test is performed, otherwise, potential damage may occur which can be very expensive.

The Fluke 1664 FC Multifunction Installation Tester, is the only tester with an insulation PreTest, which can warn you of connected appliances and so prevent serious and costly mistakes.

The following video demonstrates how the Insulation-PreTest is performed and then the Insulation resistance test:

This video demonstrates, that the PreTest feature can eliminate possible damage caused during a test and that the insulation resistance test is performed to ensure the electrical system is correctly installed and that the safety measures implemented in the system to protect against electric shock and fire protection are valid - this test needs to be performed after the system is installed, modified or repair has been carried out.

The Fluke Multifunction installation tester also has an Auto-Test function, which can perform, loop and line impedance test, RCD trip test and also three insulation tests, this feature can reduce the time to perform the individual test by up to 40%, whilst reducing the number of manual connections, so decreasing the possibility of making errors and ensures compliance with local installation regulations, as illustrated in the video below:

The Multifunction Installation testers also have Fluke Connect connectivity built in, so test results can be shared when you or your team are in different places, meaning potential problems can be solved from anywhere or a certificate can be created without being in the office as illustrated in the video:
