This article introduces "MOSFET driver" of Panasonic serialized.
The previous article (Vol. 1) gave an overview of the MOSFET driver.
In this article (Vol. 2) and the next article (Vol. 3), Panasonic will introduce you to the high output voltage and high-speed operation required for driving Si-MOSFET and SiC (Silicon Carbide) MOSFET. Here are some suggestions for you.

Power MOSFETs used in power supply applications such as industrial equipment, information infrastructure, and power storage systems are currently the mainstream for Si-MOSFET.
In addition, SiC (Silicon Carbide) MOSFETs, which are being used not only for automotive applications but also for industrial applications in recent years, are becoming increasingly popular.
High output voltage and high-speed operation are key factors in obtaining high driving efficiency.
In this article, we will introduce solutions to achieve "high output voltage.“
Case 1: Reducing the On-Resistance of a MOSFET by applying a high voltage (Vgs) between a gate and a source
I want to apply a large voltage between the MOSFET gate and source
The output characteristics of this SiC-MOSFET are attractive.
However, to reduce the On-Resistance sufficiently, it seems that I would need to use two conventional MOSFET drivers. I do not want to increase the area occupied by adding a second driver.
This is possible with the new Panasonic MOSFET driver!
Vgs = Typ. 18 V can be applied. I can sufficiently lower the on-resistance of SiC-MOSFETs!
With the new Panasonic MOSFET driver, I can reduce the On-Resistance of this SiC-MOSFET and be able to supply the necessary voltage using only one!
Even when using a MOSFET with a high gate voltage such as SiC, a high output voltage type is safe to use
【Recommended products】 MOSFET Driver High Output Voltage Type
【Reason for Reccommendation】
High output voltage contributing to reduction of MOSFET on-resistance. It is also possible to drive MOSFETs with high gate voltages such as SiC.
Type | High Output Voltage |
---|---|
Part Number | APV 3111 GVY |
Short Circuit Current (Isc) | 12µA |
Open Output Voltage (Voc) | 18V |
【Advantages】 Small high-output voltage
For full performance, such as when using SiC MOSFETs.
For MOSFETs requiring a high gate voltage Vgs. Small size can supply sufficient voltage.
【When using a conventional MOSFET Driver】
Operation is possible with the supply voltage from the driver, but the On-Resistance will not decrease. Two MOSFET drivers are necessary to increase the supply voltage.
【When using a high output voltage type MOSFET driver】
One MOSFET driver can operate SiC-MOSFETs. On-Resistance can also be lowered sufficiently!
Please consider Panasonic's MOSFET driver with high output voltage for applications that require power circuits such as industrial, robotics, telecommunications/infrastructure, and automotive applications in order to achieve high output voltage.
In the next article, we will look at some of the suggestions you can make to meet your “fast” switching needs.
