Meet the people behind the inventions in the "Portrait of an Inventor" series from RS Components.
The best technology just works, it makes our lives easier, faster, more creative, saves us time or is just plain fun. We all love technology but its important to recognise those unsung heroes, the inventors, pioneers and creative minds who woke up one morning with a great idea.
Had YouTube existed in 1955 and Back to the Future was real (willing to be proved wrong but still no sight of that hoverboard in 2015 Marty!) we might have watched Doc Brown | Time Traveller recount..
"I was standing on the edge of my toilet hanging a clock, the porcelain was wet, I slipped, hit my head on the sink, and when I came to I had a revelation! A vision! A picture in my head! A picture of this! This is what makes time travel possible: the flux capacitor!" - Doc Brown, Hill Valley.
Without such moments of inspiration and the dedication of these inventors to take those ideas and make them real where would we be?
So from Eben Upton, co-founder of the Raspberry Pi to Adrian Bowyer, inventor of the Rep-Rap Pro self replicating 3D printer. Find out what motivates them, their passions and a little bit more about the people behind the technology.
