How to Use a Flyback Converter to Achieve Isolated Voltage Level Shifting

A system using both high and low voltage requires the use of electrical isolation to protect equipment (and users) in the different voltage domains. The two domains must be separated using an insulation medium that allows them to communicate with each other without direct contact. Although they increase safety, isolated topologies are less efficient than non-isolated.

The flyback converter is a buck-boost converter with the inductor split to form a transformer, so that the voltage ratios are multiplied, with the additional advantage of providing isolation

In the following video, you will learn how how to use a flyback converter to achieve isolated voltage level shifting.
